Join us for a fun afternoon concert suitable for all from ages 5 to 105!  Prepare to be enthralled by a concert full of stories and poems about animals. There’s also the chance to be creative before the music starts – a musical menagerie not to be missed!

The entertainment on offer comprises three different pieces of music:

  • Joseph Horowitz’s Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo

Written in 1970 to words by Michael Flanders, this piece is closely based on the Biblical tale of Noah in the book of Genesis. It lightheartedly chronicles the adventures of Noah. He was charged by God to build an ark in order to preserve mankind and all the creatures of the earth. It is a delightful piece full of wit and charm, and appeals to children and adults alike.

  • Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers

This sets six of Ogden Nash’s short and humorous animal poems to music – with animals as diverse as a firefly, an eel and a cow included!

  • John Rutter’s The Wind in the Willows

A musical fable based on Kenneth Graham’s classic children’s book all about the adventures of Mole, Ratty, Badger and Mr Toad with his motor car.  This is a witty, enjoyable and characterful entertainment which was originally written for the King’s Singers.

Furthermore, we are also delighted to share that MK Play Association will be joining us before the concert. They will be running animal-related craft activities from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. There will be lots of materials, help and inspiration available for you to make something fabulous to take into the concert.  What might you choose to create?  Come along with your friends and family and join us for our lively musical menagerie!

Finally, we are very grateful indeed to Kawai Pianos for loaning us their grand piano for this concert.
